How do we protect vacant and vulnerable properties?
Securing a vacant or vulnerable property requires more than a padlock and a sign. Without active measures in place, empty buildings attract unauthorised access, vandalism, fly tipping, and arson quickly. Each incident carries costs that far exceed the investment in proper security from the outset.
RemoteZone’s protect services form the first and most immediate layer of defence. They are designed to deter, detect, and document. Whether a property has just been taken into possession or has been standing empty for some time, our team can assess the site, recommend the appropriate measures, and have them in place fast.
Our protect services are available individually or as part of a wider vacancy management programme alongside our prevent, monitor, and maintain services.
What is a temporary monitored alarm system?
A temporary monitored alarm system is a wireless, self-contained security system designed specifically for properties that are vacant, at risk, or without access to mains power or a fixed telephone line. Unlike permanent alarm installations, temporary systems can be deployed rapidly, relocated as required, and removed cleanly when no longer needed.
RemoteZone’s systems use GPRS mobile technology with roaming SIM cards to maximise signal reliability across all networks. Every activation is signalled off-site immediately and received by a trained operator at our UK-based NSI Gold-accredited ARC, who manages the response according to a pre-agreed site procedure.
All systems are SSAIB accredited to enhanced standard, meaning every installation is surveyed, designed, installed, and maintained to the code of practice for temporary monitored alarm systems.
What do our monitored alarm systems include?
RemoteZone’s temporary monitored alarm systems are fully configurable to the specific requirements of each property. Every system includes:
- Wireless detectors mounted on free-standing, non-intrusive support structures, with no drilling, fixing, or alteration to the property’s fabric.
- Tamper and orientation protection are built into every component as standard.
- An automatic daily timed arm and disarm function.
- Remote arming and disarming capability through the monitoring platform, allowing the control centre to rearm the system if a site is left without being correctly secured.
- System and warning signs that act as a visible deterrent to intruders, vandals, and arsonists.
Available detectors include:
- Internal passive infrared (PIR) detectors
- External PIR detectors
- Video detectors
- Fire and smoke detectors
- Flood detectors
- Plant and equipment movement detectors
Pricing covers a one-off installation and removal cost alongside a weekly rental fee. The rental fee covers equipment, ARC monitoring, and maintenance throughout the rental period. A complimentary site survey is included before installation.
Where a more urgent response is required, our team can carry out the survey and installation simultaneously.
How does the alarm system work?
From the moment a detector is triggered to the moment your site is secure, every stage of the process is managed by us. Here is how our alarm system works:
Stage 1 – Detection
A detector is triggered by movement, heat, smoke, water, or equipment disturbance. The activation is captured immediately by the system.
Stage 2 – Signal
The activation is signalled off-site via GPRS mobile technology to our NSI Gold-accredited alarm receiving centre. The signal is received within seconds of the trigger.
Stage 3 – Response
A fully trained ARC operator picks up the activation, assesses the situation, and manages the response according to the pre-agreed site procedure for your property. The operator is able to track movement throughout the building using the system’s remote access capability.
Stage 4 – Dispatch
Where an immediate response is required, the ARC instructs our Security Industry Authority (SIA) licensed mobile patrol response company, which dispatches a patrol officer to attend the site immediately.
Stage 5 – Secure and report
The patrol officer investigates inside and outside the premises, takes the necessary action, and remains on site until the property is fully secure. A full written report is sent to you following every activation, detailing the sequence of events and the outcome.
Wireless temporary monitored scaffold alarm system
For construction and refurbishment sites, RemoteZone also offers a wireless temporary monitored scaffold alarm system. Designed to protect external areas, including scaffolding, equipment, and materials, the scaffold alarm system operates on the same self-powered, no-mains-required basis as our standard system and is available on a weekly rental basis, including monitoring and maintenance.
The scaffold alarm system is suitable for sites where contractors are working on an occupied or vacant building and where the external areas, plant, and materials need protection alongside or independently of the main structure. It is particularly relevant for construction companies, schools, and other clients managing active building projects.
Key features of the scaffold alarm system include:
- No mains power or fixed telephone line required.
- Protection of external areas, including scaffolding structures.
- Wide range of detectors available, including external PIR, video, and movement detectors.
- Roaming SIM technology for maximum signal reliability.
- Remote arming and disarming through the monitoring platform.
- Tamper and orientation protection built into all components.
- Call-out to alarm activation by SIA-licensed mobile patrol response if required.
